Resume writing
A truly effective resume is a concise comprehensive document that focuses on your achievements and contributions and highlights the value you will bring to a company. The purpose of any resume is to paint a picture of a well-qualified candidate that will be a valued asset to the company or business. How you present skills, qualifications, competency and experience that you possess will depend on how you want to market yourself and your career goals.
The first step in the resume writing preparation process is to make a list of things you have done or achieved. This should include education, job positions held, experience and volunteer work. I suggest compiling a lengthy list of things you have done or achieved. This long list will benefit you in the end and make it easier to adjust your resume content to fit the job opening you seek.
Each statement on your list needs to contain three things. 1. Clearly explain what you had to do. 2. Concisely say how you did the work. 3. Show the benefits of how what you did.
For example, I solved work-scheduling problems, developed automated work schedule database, and produced a 10-person weekly work schedule.
This list will be the content source for all of your resume writing and help you market yourself effectively. It is important that you continually add to this list as your experiences and work history dictates. Each of your statements will paint a clear picture of you and the qualities you possess. When your list contains at least 20, statements it will be time to go to the next step in the resume writing preparation process...
